Planet Dachstein: The Dachstein Glacier in Infrared
Thursday, 01 October 2009 10:27

A beautiful autumn day for a family walk on the Dachstein Glacier with wispy clouds high above us. A 20 minute ride on the gonadal from around 2000 metres brings you up close to 3000 metres.

I had planned to take along the converted infrared DSLR camera. This camera works its wonders in strong light producing dark skies in black and white.  I knew I was in for a treat when I saw all thoses clouds.

Just to note, the air at this level has 20% less oxygen, so its popular for durance training for cross country skiers. So I took it a little easier with the tripod and rucksack.

So welcome to an alternative view, highlighting the textures and ruggness of the Dachstein rock face - Planet Dachstein.

Can you see the climbers ascenting ? into the clouds. The sheer drop of the Dachstein south face is 1,000 metres!!

Climbers on route.
