Lakeshores & Seashores from Ireland

Starting off in Donegal following the break in the weather down country to Galway.  Back to Dublin and onto Wicklow close to the Sally Gap.

Barnesmore Gap, County Donegal

As the weather changed to a dull dizzly overcast day, it was time to leave Donegal.  Heading southwards through the Barnesmore Gap in the Blue Stack mountain range. While passing through noticing a waterfall within the colored trees. A stop off in this wild place, at the lone standing pub called Biddy'O Barnes before setting off in the rain for a short walk to the Keadue Falls.

The Keadue Falls can reached easily by foot. At the end of a leafy track is where you'll find the hide away wonder. Figuring  the only way to capture the enclosed waterfall was to remove the boots, socks and roll up thetrouser and enter into the dark water. Cold 'twas, as the rain was quickly forgotten. After all this a much needed soup and sandwich was in order with the reward of a warm fire.

Inisowen Penisula, County Donegal

Very north of the country of Ireland is where the spectacular Inisowen penisula is. Making the way around what they call the "Inisowen 100", a hundred kilometres round tour with scenic view points every couple of kilometres.

  • Five Fingers Strand
Away from the car park view point,  the five finger cliffs which jut out into the sea, make a breathtaking location to photograph but not for the faint hearted!  A repeat visit on my next trip to Ireland is a must, I think

Lough Corrib, County Galway

Lough Corrib is Ireland's largest lake covering over 65 sq. miles. The lake is dotted with hundreds of island, supposely an island for each day of the year. This stretch of water is well famous for it's trout and salmon fishing.

To get the shot, sometimes you need to jump over the fence, explain to the strange farmer what you are doing, climb up loose stone walls and sit there waiting for the light to change. This day was breaking and retreating in the clouds while rolling across these fields. What a wonderful view of Lough Corrib.

Making pictures at Lough Corrib, Galway, Ireland

On the shore of Lough Corrib there is small village called Corr Na Mona, where they locally produce wonderfully tasting smoked salmon. From this two pub town a narrow road runs out into the Lough Corrib. At the end of this road you are left to solitude, the reeds and the rushes, this is Joyce's Country.

Lough Mask, County Mayo

Staying a B&B in Cong not far from the Lough, venturing out in the morning to visit the connecting lake, Lough Mask. Situated on the limestone shoreline is where the 13th century Inishmaine Abbey can be found. Once home to Augustinian Abbots many moons ago. The ruins of the 15th century gatehouse and the Abbey with the chancel arch with skillfully craving on the column capitals.

Sitting on the wall with a large zoom lens to get a direct close up of the column capitals on the right hand side.

Lough Tay, County Wicklow

Setting out early in the morning not long after first light, hiking around to the front of Lough Tay to capture the meandering river leading into the lake itself. The stillness on the water was only present for about half an hour until the sun rose bringing along the wind to disturb the reflection.
