Finally some miserable weather has arrived, a drizzly and overcast Saturday the ideal conditions for capturing inside of the Lammer gorge.  The Lammerklamm is located in Salzburgerland in the Tennengau region. The narrow ravine  has wonderful curves and rock textures in limestone.

Since 14th century when salt mining was profitable, the Salzburg rulers lived considerably well from its income. To build, the necessary mines required a large amount of wood. The Lammertal valley consisted of dense forests which was ideal for this purpose. At the time there was no easy way to cross the gorge to transport the logs. The only possible way was to dump the tree trunks into the river to get them downstream. Many of these trunk would get wedged in the gorge. A dangerous task of scaling down into the gorge to move along the logs was performed which often ended in tragedy. 1

In May 1884 the canyon was first open to the public as tourist attraction. 1

The image was taken on 29th August 2009, in this year the gorge celebrates its 125th year open as a public tourist attraction.
